Chilligavva - Selected for Notable Submission

Design selected for CSS Mania

My earlier web site design [yes the black and pink one, see picture above] was selected by CSS Import a web design showcase site.  I did not make it to the hall of fame, just yet, but did make it to the notable submissions category for June 2007.

Duly inspired, and rejuvenated with this kind of recognition, I again dug deep into my cultural background and came up with the current design.  I call this 'Cheera' which is Telugu for "Saree", the traditional garb of Indian women.

The header and footer have a traditional woven temple border (the triangles) motif.  I also played around with the layout of Flickr Photos , and came up with the impressive photo header.

I especially like the play of the speech bubbles across the site, as well as those of the circular bullets and the stylish 'chilligavva' in telugu in the footer.

Why do I blog? In reply to Kim

My very talented friend Kim of Laketrees had tagged me a good while ago. The reply is long overdue, and my deepest apologies to you Kim for the delay. The only thing I have in my defense is that I have been incredibly busy and caught up. Without much ado, heres five reasons as to why I blog....
  1. To express my thoughts and opinions
  2. To keep in touch with others
  3. Love meeting new people in different places across the web and receiving e-mails [Making new friends]
  4. To show off my web and graphic design skills [vanity aspect]
  5. To learn new things
In turn, I would like to tag the following, but with a different question. I hope this is interesting enough to receive a reply... Q: Do you like cartoons (animation)? If yes, which one and why?

The i-phone - First Hand look

Yes, I finally own one. The thrill of owning a brand new product is absolutely different from waiting it out. We were in Chicago attending a Mani Sarma concert, and couldn't make it to the product launch. On saturday morning Massa my geek hubby visited the Apple store. I was busy coffee shopping. Massa didnt want to buy it, as he wanted to wait out the product, check the AT&T connections etc. On monday, i insisted that we visit the Apple store in Omaha to check out the product. I checked it out, liked it so much that i wanted one, no questions asked. The next logical stops were the buying, hooking it up with a cingular connection etc. I love the UI. I am totally in love with the pinch and spread mechanism of enlarging and reduction. I like the qwerty interface. One thing I noticed was that I tend to tilt my finger while typing, resulting in a right shift, as I type. I love the .com button. But lazy me already feels that Apple should have provided a suggest feature ...
