Holiday season and what a loss…

Its a very sad time for Omaha natives and society at large.  I refer to the mall shooting by Robert Hawkins, that catapulted Omaha into fame, so much so that President Bush's visit went almost unnoticed.  Sadly these kinds of outlet and glory is what is defining fame and society.. Its very sad when this becomes a role model of desired behaviour. 

In a postmortem fashion, we look at alcohol, drugs and depression as the factors. But quite a few people are victims of one or all the vices.  Do they all "borrow" a weapon and give vent to their anger.  Obviously not.  Herein lies the function of values.  Values are the soft skills that are dinned into one's head and defines you when the chips are down.  Somewhere something failed in the young boys life. 

Maruca said Hawkins had lived with several friends for a couple days at a time before landing at the Maruca's house last year. "He was like a lost pound puppy that nobody wanted," she said. "I felt sorry for him. I let him stay and we tried to get him on his feet."
